US BioPower Map

The National Renewable Energy Laboratory, is a national laboratory of the U.S. Department of Energy dedicated to the research, development, commercialization and deployment of renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies. The map above is linked to NREL's EPA BioPower Mapping Application that charts biomass resources for energy across the nation. The laboratory's map tracks: Methane from Landfills, Crop Residuals, Methane from Wastewater, Primary Mill Residues, Urban Wood and Secondary Mill Residues, Methane from Manure Management, and Forest Residues along with the locations of renewable energy generating facilities and EPA brownfields.

Though this map does not highlight the energy potential from food waste, it does give a good representation of the available sources of biomass to create renewable energy across the U.S.

Go to the NREL website and view the national biopower map.
