quasar energy group is committed to bringing renewable energy to North America. “Our systems represent an aggregation of the best available technologies from over thirty European providers,” states Mel Kurtz, President of quasarSince 2006 quasar's leadership team has worked to provide clients with turn-key solutions to their waste management challenges and renewable energy goals.

Before November 2009 quasar energy group operated under the name Schmack BioEnergy.  The name change more accurately reflects our technological approach and symbolizes the contribution our systems will make to the national energy supply

quasar's first US facility is located in Akron, Ohio. Phase I of this project began operations in November of 2007 and processes 5,000 dry tons of Akron's municipal biosolids each year. This is approximately one third of Akron's annual biosolids. The facility produces 335 kilowatt hours of electricity each hour, covering approximately 25% - 30% percent of the energy consumed each year by the neighboring compost facility.

Phase II of the Akron project is slated to begin in 2010 and expand quasar's facility to process the other two thirds of Akron's biosolids. In the aerial picture on the right, quasar's system is the small round building between the compost facility and the Akron wastewater treatment plant.
