quasar's Zanesville project uses proven, advanced anaerobic digestion technology to recycle energy from organic waste. Anaerobic digestion is a natural process where microorganisms break down organic waste materials (biomass) in the absence of oxygen. The technology has been commonly used on farms in Europe, with over 8,000 systems in operation today.

The Zanesville project achieved significant recognition in 2008 when it was awarded the nation’s largest grant and guaranteed loan by the United States Department of Agriculture - Renewable Energy for America Program.

Today, the most common methods for disposing of organic waste are landfilling and incineration. Both options pollute the air, soil, and water in surrounding communities without producing any beneficial products. quasar systems improve the regional environment by diverting organic waste from landfills and incinerators and processing it naturally to produce clean, renewable energy and nutrient rich soil amendments.

quasar’s Zanesville system is fully permitted by the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency Division of Surface Water and the Division of Air Pollution Control and approved for installation by the Maysville Regional Water District.
